Single moms?
I was a single mom and it was very impowering. First, make sure you have a job. Any job. Having enough money is going to be the biggest challenge. Go to garage sales and thrift stores to find great bargins. Little ones outgrow things so fast that spending $1.00 is much wiser than $10.00 on something he or she can only wear for a few weeks. As a single mom, many doors open for childcare and assistance. Seek them out and don't be ashamed. You will be exhaused... trust me. Nap when the baby is napping. Sometimes this can be hard but you will be more patient and have more strength if you too take short cat naps. Be sure to hold the father accountable. Find an attorney and make him pay child support - just make sure he is listed as the father on the birth certificate. The money he will be required to pay should help with formula, diapers, clothing, et al. A paralegal will cost a lot less and sometimes they will work out payment arrangements. The point is, in the long run the financial benefit is for you and your child. Being a single mom is awesome. Be sure to take time for yourself. Look in the local newspaper for single mom support groups and become invloved with them. Their community resources can help you become a better parent and a stonger person! Good luck!
Reply:I dated someone terrible for 4 years, he was abusive and ended up going to jail for it. So, I gave birth with my family and have been a single mom ever since. I think there are some amazing advantages to it actually! I make all of the decisions and I know that the decisions I make are safe and in his best interest. Also, my family aids in those decisions every day and I wouldnt trust him with anyone else. I believe as a single mom my son doesnt need a father, he only needs love, really, no child 'needs' a father, what they need most are role models, love and understanding. A father is just a name and a title that needs to be rightfully earned. It doesnt take just doing the act to be a father. Being a single mum is also hard because of body issues, sadness about the situation and also dating is very hard, really, men are dating for two because if they dont accept your child, they dont accept you. The key is just believing in yourself and your traits as a good mother. All single mothers are tough and strong, they do everything in twos and not just one. They are not selfish, often simple, not needy and extremely independant. Sometimes you dont choose to be that way, usually you just have too. It is one of the best qualities we have. Enjoy : )

Reply:Being a single mom is the hardest and most rewarding thing I've ever done. Sure, it would have been great to have dad in the picture but you can't force them to do so. You have to keep your head up. You made the choice to keep your baby and you will never regret it! I didn't.
Reply:I am an 18 year old single mom of a beautiful three month old baby boy, I am gladly a single mother. My ex was very mentally abusive and towards the end of our relationship it became physically abusive. It is though it is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and probably ever will do. I am going back to school after I dropped out five months before I had my son so that I could go to work full time, I had to move back in with my parents after being on my own since I was 16. It has been hard but I am loving every minute of it, when he wakes up and looks at me and smiles with his fat little cheeks and his dimples it just melts my heart! It has all been worth it!
Reply:i am a single mom with two boys. 12 and 8.
it is a lot of work, but i am more scared now!!!
I am 6 weeks pregnant by a man who wants me to have an abortion - so I will be raising this one from birth all alone.
i am scared and am just hoping for the best....
Reply:I am in the same boat. I was told that either I get an abortion or he's going to make sure I have a miscarriage. So far the only thing I've had is the headache of dealing with getting a restraining order :)
He wanted this baby and I wanted to wait. I guess what's meant to be will always find a way...because I have taken birth control for 6 years and still conceived.
