Single car garage - Disadvantages?

Yahoo Fans..!!!

We are searching for new single detached house. We are stuck on one point. Whether to buy detached house with Single car garage or Two car garage? (of course two car garage is bit stretch on budget)

People says you can't use single car garage for anything.. you can either put car or use it for tools, lawn mower, snow blower etc.. it becomes very inconvenient..

Also you can't get good resale value if you have single car garage?

We are living near Toronto, Canada..

please share your experience..

Thanks-

Single car garage - Disadvantages?
for sure go with the two car garage and make the investment. A one car garage is very impractical and is very limiting on the amount of storage you have.
Reply:A 2 car garage is always better -- then you don't argue about who gets to park inside or you don't have to move cars around all the time to get out. lol But you can make a one car garage work if that's all you have. Our first house didn't even have a garage, just a carport, so we put a small shed (one of those that looks like a mini barn) in the back yard for all the bikes, mower, tools, etc. It worked out fine. As for resale -- yes, most people want more than a 1 car garage, but with the backyard shed, even that helps the resale.
Reply:Is there room to build a larger garage? What do the city or village codes say about size limits? Is there enough room on the lot?

If the price of the house is good enough where you c an build a new garage it would be worth it in the long run. By building new, you can have it almost any way you want.
Reply:all we ever had was one car garages- were able to fit 2-4 bikes and a lawnmower and a table saw and the car- it wasn't a hot rod Lincoln but it wasn't a mini cooper either. Oh and lawn chairs and garden tools on the walls
Reply:Hey! Only get what you can afford but we have a single car garage right now and it stinks....we can't put anything in it...either a car or boxes..we're moving so we're putting alot of stuff in the garage..my hunny has to park on the street lol!

but again, get what you can afford!
